This autumn has been our busiest yet. We’re speeding towards the end of 2019 and there’s no slowing down.

Since our last update in August, we’ve launched:

  • Euro accounts for business customers
  • Debit card enablement for euro accounts - both personal and business
  • Online banking for business customers
  • Our national TV advertising campaign
  • Business Marketplace integrations with Superscript (formerly Digital Risks), CyberSmart, Nimbla and so-sure
  • Extra security for contactless payments
  • Subscriptions to our blog
  • Post Office branch finder

Two currencies, one card

Starling business customers can now apply for a euro account where they can hold, send and receive euros. Once verified, the business euro account costs £2 a month, perfect for those who source their supplies from Europe or own property abroad and run it as a business. There’s no monthly charge for personal customers with a euro account.

Both Starling personal and business customers can use their existing debit cards to spend from their euro account. Simply go to the ‘Card and Currency Controls’ section of the app, click ‘Currency Controls’ and switch from pound to euro, or back again to change your spending currency. Euro debit card transactions will then come from your euro account, including cash withdrawals, while GBP debit card transactions will continue to come from your regular account.

Business banking, but better

Our digital business accounts are now better than ever: sole traders and limited companies can manage payments and download bank statements through our secure online banking platform, on a laptop or desktop and in addition to the app.

All business customers can also gain access to insurance from Superscript or phone insurance from so-sure. For those with limited companies, you’ll be able to improve your cyber security with CyberSmart or access invoice insurance from Nimbla. All of these partners are available in the Starling Marketplace within the app.

Blogging for Britain

Each month, we publish dozens of blog posts. To keep in the loop, you can now subscribe to our blog and receive fortnightly round-ups of the latest content. Recently, we’ve covered money-saving tips for visitors to various UK cities, valuable advice from our business customers and a series of blogs on student finance. We also dive into new app features and product updates and have run #AskStarling videos, providing answers to your burning questions on Starling’s plans.

Out and about

We may be a branchless bank but that doesn’t mean you can’t come and meet Team Starling. In the last few weeks, we’ve attended seven business events, talking to more than 27,500 small business owners from Edinburgh, Southampton, Cardiff, Birmingham and London. We also had the pleasure of sponsoring Red Smart Women Week (pictured above) in partnership with Red magazine. The event involved talks, interviews, workshops and masterclasses, covering everything from careers to catwalks.

There are almost 20 more events coming up before the end of the year, including an engineering event hosted at Starling’s Southampton Office on 6th November, as well as XeroCon, for fans of cloud accounting, and The Business Show.

Finally, we were the sponsors of the GB Archery National tour finals. Stay tuned for more updates - we’ve got lots of new features and partnerships coming up and we’re right on target to hit one million customers and £1 billion held on deposit before the end of the year.
