It’s like a child bank account, but with more visibility and control for parents and guardians. Set it up in minutes, transfer money onto their Kite card in seconds, keep an eye on their spending and help them build great habits for the future – all with Britain’s Best Bank 2020.

16 or 17 years old? They can apply for our teen account.

Financial flying lessons

It’s in the name. Built seamlessly into your account, Kite gives kids a taste of independence (while making sure you’re still holding the reins).

Life lessons for them

  • Turn spending into skills. Tracking what they spend is an important part of shaping how kids think about money. Use the analytics in your app to show them where their money goes each month, so they can learn how to spend responsibly.
  • Saving for the things they want. By saving a Goal with you in your app, kids can learn how to work towards the things they want (and what it really takes to get there). Adding an image helps them visualise it and stay on track.
  • The green light. As a branchless and paperless bank that runs primarily on renewable energy, Starling is a bank for a greener generation.

"It’s fun to use. You don’t have to spend your parents’ money. You can learn how to use your card when you grow up."

Effortless control for you

  • Under one roof. Switching between apps is a thing of the past. With Starling Kite, you’ll get the full picture and be able to see what they’re spending, directly from your app.
  • And under your wing. Get instant payment notifications whenever they spend, and full access to their spending history – plus set spending limits and controls for online shopping or ATM withdrawals, or for specific types of transactions. Got a joint account? The other person will get all that, too.
  • The safest way. When it comes to safety, contactless beats cash every time. Plus going digital means you’ll be able to keep track of what they’re spending, lock the card if it’s lost or stolen and get money over to them wherever they are.

I love my Starling Kite card. I went to the shop and I bought hair clips and nail varnish. I know my PIN but I can’t tell you because that’s a secret.
