Overdraft cost calculator

How much will my overdraft cost in pounds and pence?

As an example, the interest cost of borrowing £500 at our different rates of 15%, 25%, and 35% EAR (variable) can be seen below.

7 days30 days60 days
15% EAR£1.34£5.77£11.58
25% EAR£2.15£9.25£18.60
35% EAR£2.91£12.48£25.14

You can also use our calculator tool to work out how much your arranged overdraft borrowing would cost over our three rates based on the size of your overdraft and how long you borrow for.

If you’re looking to apply for an overdraft, you’ll need our personal current account or student account before you apply.

Representative example

The representative APR (variable) is 15%. If you used an arranged overdraft of £1,200 for 30 days, at 15% EAR/APR (variable), it would cost you £13.86 in interest.

How it works

Our overdraft calculator is a guide to help you understand potential costs. We only charge interest based on how you actually use your overdraft.

To work out the potential costs for you, we assume that:

  • You owe the full amount for the full time period you’ve chosen on the calculator.

  • You don’t make any payments into your account to reduce what you owe during the time period you’ve chosen.

  • You pay the full amount back at the very end of the period you’ve chosen.

Things to know

The costs shown in the calculator are for interest only. We don’t charge any other overdraft fees.

We’ll add up how much you owe in interest and charge this to your account each month. If you don’t repay your overdraft before we charge you the following month, it may cost you more over time. This is because we usually charge interest on top of the interest you’ve already built up.

Remember that applying for or using an overdraft can affect your credit score.

Unarranged overdrafts

An unarranged overdraft happens if you go over your agreed limit. It also happens if you go overdrawn without an overdraft in place.
