What's your side hustle?

I draw minimalistic illustrations for digital and print projects — you can see my work at

How do you balance your time between your day job and your side hustle?

After my full time job, I still have a few hours every day for my side projects. It’s not always easy to keep working afterwards, however I feel happy to do so. Recently, I’m mostly working on my personal projects, polishing my drawing technique.

How did you get into illustration?

Ever since my childhood; most kids love to draw, but with time they lose the pleasure of this hobby or simply get bored. I was one of the exceptions and I never got bored, and just kept drawing all the time. I went on to complete a graphic design degree at university in my home town of Kaunas, and subsequently moved to London to delve further into the world of art and further my career. In 2014, I completed a two-year painting course at an art centre in East London, polishing my skills in fine art. I then ventured into digital drawing on a tablet and have been creating such illustrations ever since.

What makes you passionate about it?

I just love drawing. This is the one thing I will never stop doing.

Who is your favourite illustrator?

Throughout different stages of my life, I've had different idols. At very beginning, I was crazy about pencil portraits and my idol was American pencil artist, Brian Duey. Since I became more attached to the the digital art world, I have particularly admired UK-based artists Thomas Danthony and Malika Favre. I love the minimalism in their works and how they manipulate shapes in innovative ways to create perfect, polished illustrations.

Where's next on your travel list?

I just love heat, water and sand! Who doesn’t? In the past couple of years I have visited Kos and Crete, and this year my girlfriend Brooke and I are off to Tenerife!

If you could go back in time, where would you go?

I would prefer go to future rather than back in time. But if I had to choose, I would take my iPhone and travel back to medieval London to take some pictures of the town where, unbelievably, the Tower of London was the tallest building in the city. Imagine that now!

Thanks Mantas!
